The ASCC Clubs and Organizations Senator position is open for spring term.

Applications are available in the student government room in Student Center 126. Former Senator Billy Davis has resigned from his position for health reasons.

“He attended as many club meetings as he possibly could,” said Senator for Executive Affairs Jennifer Lund.  “He took personal interest in all the clubs and they always knew he was there for them.”

The application deadline is March 5.

“Billy did an outstanding job,” said Student Government President Kari Andersen. “He was so devoted to his position. He was passionate about uniting different groups of people and he cared a lot.”

A spot on the student government staff can be a time of individual growth and may open up future prospects.

“It is a great opportunity. I have learned so much about myself and others,” Lund said. “It is a great experience. And, it looks great on applications, especially if you are going to transfer.”

Requirements for clubs and organizations senator include a 2.5 cumulative GPA and a 12 to 15 hour workweek spent attending student government meetings and training sessions and coordinating a spring quarter Clubs and Organizations Fair.

“You need a sense of responsibility as well as organization,” said Lund. “Whenever you are on campus you are in the role of student government, both during classes and outside of classes.”

Additional expectations and job descriptions can be found in application packets in the student government room.

“We control a lot of what the students can do with budgets and making clubs available,” Lund said. “We try to do as much as we can in the best interest of the students.”

Applicants must be able to legally work in the United States and have a social security card.

“You have to want to make a difference,” said Andersen. “A person needs to be very passionate and be able to get the job done.”

Clubs and organizations senator and all other student government positions are equally paid during each term, and also during August and September training.

“Organization is key,” said Andersen. “You have to be open minded, willing to have challenges, think outside the box and be flexible. And you have to be personable.”

ASCC Student Government elections for the 2010-2011 school year will occur on April 20 and 21. The application deadline for the elections is April 7.

The role of the student government is an important one.

“You have the opportunity to have a huge impact on the school,” she said.

Similar requirements apply for all positions.

“We are always looking for highly motivated students to step forward and apply,” said Lund.

President, vice-president and senators for executive affairs, student relations and clubs and organizations are available.

“It is a pretty wide range of impact on the students,” said Andersen. “You get to intermingle and bring back what students want to the administration. There are so many focuses, the current administration decides what to spend time on.”

More information on job descriptions and requirements is available from the ASCC Student Government office or at ext. 357.
