The Tobacco Quitters club is an organization in its infancy.

“Its basic purpose is to provide a support network to students who want to quit smoking,” said Dylan Spencer, SAAT health and wellness coordinator.

Not technically a club yet, the Tobacco Quitters just found an advisor and still need one thing to be able to submit their constitution and guidelines to the senator for Clubs and Organizations – a quantifiable amount of student interest.

“We just need two more students to pledge allegiance to the club,” said Spencer, who is beginning the club but says he does not want to be Club President.

Once the required materials are submitted and the club is official, it will need elected officers and several startup meetings to become active.

Planned activities include involvement in next year’s Great American Smokeout and distributing information around campus about quitting smoking.

“The club is ideally for people who are trying to quit or who recently quit,” said Spencer.
