International Night's 15th annual event invited students and the public to experience an amazing night of fabulous food and fun entertainment from around the world.
Each student submitted a recipe that was a favorite dish from their country. It also gave them a chance to work as a team and prepare the food. Guests ate food from different cultures including Mung Dhal from India, or a thin bread called Kissera from Sudan. Each had its own spectacular taste.
After dinner guests were invited to Corbet Theatre and were greeted by emcees Jair Juarez and Marko Kila . The two international students did an outstanding job speaking and entertaining the audience. They asked everyone how they liked the food.
"You guys better have liked it, because we spent a lot of time cooking," Marko said.
Juarez replied, "Marko, don't you mean ‘we hope they liked it?"
Laughing, Marko looked at the audience and said "No, they better have liked it, because I'm never cooking again."
"The highlight of the event for me was the food, and to enjoy the fruits of our labor. Also, seeing the students on stage makes me proud," Brianna Carigan, International Student Advisor, said.
The entertainment was planned by the students. Some were very talented and more than willing to perform. Most of the clothing was brought by the students who were informed about this event before they arrived in the U.S.
During a performance known as the Tinikling Bamboo Dance, the audience joined in clapping to the rockin' beat of ‘We Will Rock You.' by Queen. Dollies Dancing to the Dolly Song had the audience rolling with laughter. These were only two of many fun performances of the night.
Marko addressed this year's theme Heal The World "We chose this theme because we are all from different countries that are facing different issues. We all have to work together to make this world a better place." Each member of this community can help heal the world by attending local events like this to experience and appreciate different races and cultures.
