The Centralia Lady Blazers had their first action of the season in the form of two mini scrimmages against the Division II opponent Evergreen.
Evergreen is a four year university and much larger than Centralia however that did not intimidate the Blazers.
"We were looking up to the challenge," said sophomore Centralia center Stevie Isaac.
The Blazers started strong taking an early 6-3 lead and kept the lead for eight minutes before Evergreen tied things up 13-13.
Over the next five minutes the teams swapped baskets as Centralia saw their last lead of the game 24-23 with little under eight minutes remaining.
The Goeducks only scored seven points in the final five minutes of the game but were able to hold the charging Blazers off for a two-point 38-36 win.
Centralia shot 43-percent from the field and 88-percent from the charity stripe in the game one loss.
Lexi Belcher led the Blazers with eight points while Molly Erven was right behind her with seven.
In the second game Centralia held a slim lead for five minutes before falling behind.
The Blazers kept the game close but lost 25-21 shooting just 25-percent from the field and 72-percent from the line.
"Things just really weren't falling and we kind of rushed things," Isaac said.
Ali Campbell and Autumn Greene each had five points in the second game to lead the team in scoring.
For the first live action together Isaac thought the team did not play too bad. She thought the team played well as a unit but still has a few kinks to get worked out.
"We will get them fixed," Isaac said, "we have a lot of work to do but we will get to where we need to be."
Both the Lady Blazers and Men's squads have a blue and gold scrimmage against themselves Nov. 12 at home after the annual spaghetti feed in the cafeteria. Tickets can be purchased at the door.
Notes: In game one Elena Belcher put in six, Alyson Chandler had five, Courtney May and Autumn Greene both had four, and Ali Campbell rounded out the scoring with two points. In game two May had 4 points, Erven, Lexi and Elena Belcher each had two.
