Where can money strapped college students go for fun and adventure?
For most college students, money is tight. So what is there to do in Centralia, when not in class or studying, that is affordable, or even free? There are many possibilities: For instance, physical or spiritual activity, art and diversity and many other unique themes.
At 10:25 a.m. Thursday morning, Riverside Fire Authority was dispatched the 1100 block of Centralia College Boulevard for a residential structure fire. Fire crews arrived on scene quickly from the Pearl Street station. Smoke was coming from the second floor of the house, and firefighters were forced to engage in an "aggressive interior attack" in the attic space and knee wall, Riverside Fire Chief Jim Walkowski said.
If you were in town Sunday, you may have noticed smoke in the air and part of South Gold Street closed. If you didn't, then you missed Riverside Fire Authority conducting live fire training in an abandoned house next to Just Wood and David's furniture stores.
Today is set aside annually to remember, honor and give thanks to those who were and those who are involved in keeping our freedoms by serving in the armed forces. In other parts of the world, today is also recognized under such names as Armistice Day or Remembrance Day.
Centralia College student Matthew Mehi, 21, became an avid climber in Germany while still in grade school. He recently discovered Thorbeckes' 30-foot wall, and appreciatively takes advantage every free-climb Thursday.
