January 22, 2011 Every day I ask my players to be focused, maintain their composure, and to channel their emotions in a way that does not negatively affect our team. As a coach, I try to model that behavior; unfortunately, during the game against Tacoma Community College (TCC) I lost my composure and let them down.
The Blazer women's basketball team took a tough loss Monday in their first league game of the season falling to the Clark County Penguins 42-62. "We need to execute on defense," Centralia Head Coach Shane Schutz said after the game. Late in the first half, the Penguins went on a 10-0 run to take the lead and go ahead by 10 points before halftime.
The Centralia men's basketball team started their league season Monday with a big win over the Clark County Penguins. The Blazers entered the second half with a seven-point lead and were able to extend their lead in the second half to defeat the Penguins 80-65.
Shane Schutz, the new basketball coach for the Lady Blazers, is no stranger to campus. He is a member of the Centralia College Sports Hall of Fame and was a stand-out player for the men's basketball team from 1992-94. Schutz played for coach Bob Peters, now CC's Athletic Director, and said "This feels really at home.
Athletes, coaches and parents met in the cafeteria June 2 to recognize all of the Blazer athletes for the hard work they put in throughout the year.
Many of the outstanding athletes that have joined the Centralia College Sports Hall of Fame were skilled in more than one sport. The three athletes inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2010 are no exception as all three played two sports at the college.
