Blazers take two on sophomore night

Centralia hosted its final games of the season May 8 when Grays Harbor came to town. The Blazers won both games on sophomore night before losing the final game of the series May 9 in Grays Harbor.

In the first game Centralia scored the most runs they have in a game all season behind a monster 11 run second inning.

The Blazers were able to tack on two more runs picking up a 13-1 victory over the Chokers. The game only went seven innings because of a 10 run mercy rule.

Mike Murray started for Centralia and pitched the first five innings striking out five batters and only giving up one run.

Alex Anderson came in to relieve him going the final two innings striking out two and giving up one hit.

Rust Beam led the Blazers with three RBIs and two runs and was also hit by a pitch and had a sacrifice fly.

Kyle Jones had two RBIs on two hits and scored one run for Centralia.

Taylor Miller and Carl Johnson each had an RBI and scored two runs.

The Blazers were not able to run away with the second game but still picked up the 5-3 win.

Grays Harbor had a 1-0 lead going into the fourth inning when Centralia scored four runs to take the lead.

The Blazers added another run in the fifth before Grays Harbor scored two in the sixth but it wasn't enough.

Scott Miller struck out seven batters in six innings for Centralia. He gave up five hits and all three of Grays Harbors runs, however only one was earned.

Mike McGuire came in to close the final inning not allowing a runner to reach base and striking out a batter.

Jones hit two doubles in the game and drove in three RBIs to lead the Blazers offensively.

Beam had another solid performance getting two hits in two appearances and scored a run.

Centralia then traveled to Grays Harbor May 9 for the final game of the series.

The Blazers had and 8-1 lead going into the bottom half of the sixth inning but let Grays Harbor score eight unanswered runs to win 9-8.

"We were beating them 8-1 and then took all of our starters out," shortstop Joe Wooster said.

Tyson Schmitt pitched the first five innings for Centralia allowing only three hits and one unearned run.

Jordan Everson pitched the sixth inning giving up two runs on two hits.

Ramesh Ramnarine pitched the seventh inning striking out two of the three batters he faced.

Jace Shelton struck out one batter in the eighth before being replaced by Alex Bos who gave up four unearned runs.

Colton Westfall came in to relieve Bos and gave up two runs in the ninth inning and was charged with the loss.

"We put different pitchers to have them get some work in," Wooster said. "We made some errors and they capitalized on them."

The Blazers had three errors in the game and gave up five unearned runs.

McGuire had and RBI and scored a run on two hits.

Connor Adams had one hit and scored a run while Johnson had one hit with an RBI.

Centralia has four games remaining before the NWAACC playoffs starts. May 15 the Blazers travel to Pierce for a doubleheader then travel to Tacoma May 16.

"We really need to bring our A game this weekend in order to make NWAACC's," Wooster said. "We have to win all four. We are definitely capable. We just have to show up and come ready to play each game."
