Lady Blazers hang tough with leagues top teams

After winning their games against Grays Harbor during the weekend by forfeit, the Lady Blazers have since split a doubleheader against Highline and lost two to league leader Pierce.

Centralia traveled to Highline May 4 and opened the series against the Thunderbirds blasting them for 15 hits scoring 11 runs on their way to an 11-1 pummeling.

The Blazers had 15 hits compared to Highline who had only four.

Kassy Williamson led Centralia going 4-4 from the plate.

Stephanie Spriggs picked up the win and had two strikeouts.

In the second game however, the Thunderbirds got the best of the Blazers winning a close 3-1 battle.

"We beat them by 10 runs the first game then just couldn't get anything going," Centralia left fielder Courtney May said.

After 15 hits in the first game the Blazers were only able to get five in the second while giving up eight.

Sam Hall struck out six batters but got the loss on the mound.

The next day, May 5, Centralia traveled to Pierce to take on first the first place Red Raiders. The teams had met four times in the season with Pierce winning all of the games outscoring the Blazers 34-4.

Centralia was able to keep the games closer this time around but still lost both games of the doubleheader.

In the first game the Blazers were able to score four runs on nine hits but lost 8-4.

Lindsay Mayeda led Centralia's attack getting three hits in four at-bats.

Brittany Frank helped the Blazers cause with a homerun.

Frances Camp got the loss.

Centralia came out hot in the second game and built a four run lead before letting it slip to lose 9-7.

"We lost it in one inning, we just couldn't get an out," May said of the loss.

The Blazers out hit Pierce for the first time this season getting 11 hits compared to the Raiders 10.
Tabitha Lawson led the Blazers with three hits in four at-bats.

Frank stayed hot hitting another bomb while Kim Kerlee joined in the deep game and hit a homer also.

Camp was charged with the loss in the second game also.
