Where are all the plant-eaters?

There must not be any vegetarians or vegans on campus. At least, that’s the only logical conclusion I can come up with to explain the college’s unfriendliness regarding those with alternative lifestyles.

Vegetarian food options in the cafeteria are dismal. Vegan options are almost nonexistent, and I would not be surprised if the school’s food purchasers have no idea what “organic” is. This is the sad reality of the green movement in Centralia, where it regards edibles.

If I were to peruse the daily offerings at the hot lunch counter as an omnivore, I would find a veritable smorgasbord – albeit one leading to a coronary.

The vegan and vegetarian dishes are no better than deep-fried cardboard, unless one opts for the salad bar and excludes dressing from their ridiculously small and overpriced daily graze.

For students in all-day programs like Diesel Tech or who are taking a full load or more, there really isn’t any other option unless they bring food from home.

Spinach wilts, hot pockets cool. It is a sad day when already cash-strapped college kids have to make a decision between hungry all day and dirt poor, in a diabetic coma.

The situation downright blows, from my standpoint.

The point of a cafeteria is to get your nourishment on, affordably and without major health sacrifices. Without feedback and a boycott, nothing will change.

For more information, go to vegan.org or do a search. Find out what’s right for you using as many information resources as you feel necessary.
